Odds and Ends:
We are getting ready to celebrate Johnny Appleseed's birthday on Tues. 9/25. Please send in a peeled, cored, sliced apple to school with your child to be used to make homemade applesauce for our class as we celebrate his birthday. The smell of delicious, warm applesauce will fill the air of the 3rd grade wing on Tuesday! Thank you! Thank you for signing and checking your child's assignment notebook every night!! I really appreciate it!

September Reading Calendar Due
A LOOK AT NEXT WEEK:
*Reading; We will continue our unit on Tales as Old as Time as we explore character traits, decoding new vocabulary using context clues, and story elements and theme/main idea through folktales, fairy tales, fables, and myths. Ask your child about how we can annotate our texts!
* English: We are learning about what makes a sentence complete, types of sentences (exclamation, question, statement, and commands), and subjects and predicates. We are also working on capital letters for proper nouns in DOL. A DOL quiz will be on Friday. 9/28. Your child can expect a graded review this week on the 4 types of sentences.
* Spelling: We will get a new word list and menu for the week. We will work on these words for 2 weeks with the test on Friday, Oct. 5th. The students will be given class time to work on their 3 spelling activities, but it is very helpful if you can check in with your child's progress from time to time to make sure they are using class time wisely to complete their activities at school. They may have to do some of the work at home.
*Social Studies: We will continue our work on maps as we study hemispheres, the equator, prime meridian, and the poles.
*Mrs. Olsen's Math Class: We will continue our work on addition and subtraction strategies. We will also work on subtraction fast facts this week. It is the same format as addition, which daily practice tests. The subtraction fast fact test will officially be on Fri. 9/28. Thank you for having your child practice these facts every day at home.
