Odds and Ends:
*Magazine Drive: We were the top selling class at PV! Way to go! We competed in the Mario Cart assembly. Nicholas Motuelle was my student racer. What fun! We won first place and the honor of receiving a trophy to display in the classroom. We also will enjoy a pizza party on Mon. 10/22 for being the one of the top 2 classrooms in magazine drive participation. Thank you all for you participation and hard work!
*Scholastic Order: October orders were due 10/19. Please add any last minute orders online! I will be sending home a Nov. order soon!
*Water.org: Thank you so much to the generous donations so far! We have raised over $60 to go towards water.org to help provide clean water options to people in need. Just $25 can give a person clean water access for LIFE! We will be collecting until Jan, when I will make the donation, along with money raised from my family and friends, in honor of my son Liam's 2nd birthday. Thank you for helping us support this worthy cause!
*Donations needed: We will be in need of the following items for our guided reading groups:
-Post it notes: Page markers (little rectangular size) ultra colors: I know they are available at Office Max, as well as other stores. (see picture)
Thank you to the Motuelle and Leatherwood family for snack and drink donations. I will take those at any time...we use them for our prizes and for students who forget snack. Any healthy, individually wrapped snacks and 100% juice boxes are accepted. THANK YOU!!

A LOOK AT NEXT WEEK:
*Reading: We will work on cause and effect and making predictions. Our model text will be Cliffhanger. We will learn new vocabulary for the story this week and a quiz will be announced soon-it will be written in your child's assignment notebook next week.
*English: We will put together all of the things good writers do when writing descriptive paragraphs as we write our haunted house paragraphs. Ask your child about the things writers use when "painting" with words.
*Spelling: We are on list 9. The pretest will be Monday. Homework is due Thurs. The test will be on Friday.
*Science: We are finished with ch. 9. We will take a short break from science as we focus on social studies next week.
*Social Studies: We will begin our unit on Downers Grove. We will begin with the history of Downers Grove. We will be gaining schema (background knowledge) about Downers Grove to prepare us for an upcoming field trip. More information coming soon!
*Math: We will focus on ch. 4: subtracting greater numbers as we work on borrowing number and subtracting across zeros. Ask your child about the Triple B Ranch: Bottom Bigger? Borrow!! We have been having a grand ol' time in math lately! The test is schedule for Fri. 10/26. A study guide will be sent home early next week.
Please continue to study your addition math facts. We will practice each day this week. Beginning on Fri. 10/26, the tests will count as a grade. If your child passes any day before Friday next week, that will count as their final grade and they won't have to take any more addition fact fasts. We are taking 25 problem tests. I have been giving them about 2 minutes to complete.
