Week of 10/26/15 - 10/30/15

ODDS & ENDS:
Our classroom Halloween Party & Parade is this Friday, Oct. 30th from 1:10pm to the end of the day. The school parade starts at 2:10pm. Our Room Parent is working hard with our party volunteers to make it a great celebration! Students will change into costumes at 1:10pm.  Costumes need to be brought in a bag on Friday.  We will change in the classroom (boys and girls will be separated.)   Please make sure your child’s costume can easily be worn over their clothes.  No toy weapons please!!

Parent-Teacher Conferences: They will be afternoon/evenings of Monday Nov. 2, Tuesday Nov. 3, or Wednesday Nov. 4.
Most of you have already signed up.  If you haven’t already grabbed a slot, do so quickly!!

ClassDojo: We're trying out the behavior and study skill online program, ClassDojo. Many parents and students have logged in. The kids are so excited to get feedback and to customize their own Dojo character. Once your logged in, not only will you see how your child is doing in class, but you will also receive class reminders & updates (in any language when you access ClassDojo online at www.classdojo.com). The App is also available for iOS and Android.

Student of the Week: Jokubas is our "Star Student" this week. He will be sharing a poster about himself and his favorite things. We can't wait for him to share! : ) When your child is "Star Student", they will bring home a poster to complete. They can also pick a day to bring in a show-and-tell. We pick a student's name every Thursday.

COMING UP THIS WEEK:

Spelling:   New spelling list #4 is coming home this week. The 8 spelling activities "menu" & work are due on Thursday, 11/5. The spelling test will be that same day (11/5).

Reading & Language Arts:  We are continuing our unit of study, “Tales as Old as Time.” This week's focus is Myths. Students are continuing their Fiction #2 Read to Self books and working on the corresponding Independent Reading Contract. Many have already turned theirs in. The due date is 11/13, but we may finish up earlier than that... I'll keep you posted. The next Read to Self/Independent Reading Contract will be a Biography.

Keep reading for 20 minutes a night! October reading logs will be due Mon. 11/2. Completed reading logs are worth 10 points!

Social Science:   In Chapter 9/Lesson 3 we've been learning about Weather. We'll take an open-book quiz on Lesson 3 on Monday 10/26. Then we will take a Chapter 9 Test covering all Lessons 1, 2, and 3 on Thursday 11/29. The study guide came home on Friday. The Chap. 9 Test will not be open-book.

Mrs. Lopez & Mrs. Forsman's Math Class:  We're into Unit 2: Multiplication! This next math module (or chapter) covers multiplication story problems using Graphs & Multiple Operations. Our Unit 2 Test will be this Friday 10/30. The Pre-Assessment Study Guide went home for practice. We encourage students to finish it and bring it back to school by Wednesday 10/28 & then we will send home the answer key to check their work/understanding. The pre-assessments are very similar to the unit tests, so if they understand the problems in the pre-assess, they should do very well on the unit tests.
