Welcome to 3rd Grade

We have had a great first week in 3rd grade together. I have REALLY enjoyed meeting and learning so much about your child. We have had fun getting to know each other.

I know this is going to be a fantastic year!

Thank you for checking out my weekly blog. Here you will find out what we are learning in class, what important dates you should know about, and other classroom happenings. If your child has me for the Language Arts block (reading, english, and spelling), math, or science and social studies, you can check here to find out what we are doing in class. Thanks!

Important Dates:

Mon. 9/1: No School: Labor Day

Thurs. 9/4: RTI Parent Information Night – 7:00 pm

Fri. 9/5: Spelling: List 1 Test

Mon. 9/8: 3rd Grade Curriculum Night 7 pm

What's Happening Next Week:

Reading: We will be meeting together as a class for the first time next week. This year we will focus on various reading strategies and skills using the basal reader and various novels. The first focus is on visualization and story elements.

English: We will begin with Unit 1, which covers the four types of sentences. We will do daily work with various punctuation lessons as we work on our D.O.L.

Spelling: We will begin with List 1, words with a silent e. We will have a graded test on Friday.

Science: This week we started our unit on human bodies. We discussed the importance of our body systems working together like a team. We also learned about organs, tissues, and cells. We will focus on the skeletal system next.

Social Studies: We began our map unit this week. We will focus on directions and the compass rose.

Math: Math groups met for the first time this Friday. We will continue to meet next week as we work on place value, even and odd numbers, and 3,4,5 digit numbers.

Thank you for visiting my blog! Check here every Friday for updates.

Help Wanted!

Thank you!
It was so great to meet each one of you at our Open House this year. I am really looking forward to a great school year! Please mark you calendars for our 3rd Grade Curriculum Night on Monday, September 8th at 7 pm. I hope to see you all there as you learn more about 3rd grade at Prairieview School.
This week your child will meet in my classroom each day. Beginning next week, they will meet with their math and language arts (reading, english, and spelling) teachers every day as well.
COPY PARENT WANTED:

My class is still in need of a parent volunteer to come in once a week for 30-60 minutes to help with classroom copying and stapling. This would be a once a week duty, but can be shared among two parent volunteers. It is best to have it at the same time each week. As of now, there are many sessions open, so I can work with your schedule. The role of copy parent is a highly appreciated position, as it helps me out so very much. If you are interested, please email me at eolsen@ccsd66.org. Thanks!
